Aims
· Improve livelihoods of farmers in the North Bank Region through profitable, sustainable agriculture.
· Strengthen farmer unity and cooperation by building a strong, well-governed association across communities.
· Increase food security by boosting production of rice, vegetables, livestock, poultry, fish, and other key products.
· Expand market access so members can sell produce at fair prices locally and internationally.
· Promote modern, climate-smart farming and sustainable natural resource management to improve yields while protecting the environment.
· Support women and youth empowerment through skills, opportunities, leadership roles, and decent employment in agriculture and agribusiness.
· Promote tree plantation and environmental conservation to improve soil health, biodiversity, and climate resilience.

Objectives
1. Institutional Strengthening
· Establish strong governance, leadership structures, policies, and accountability systems.
2. Membership Development
· Register and organize farmers across villages, grow membership, and protect members’ interests.
3. Capacity Building and Training
· Provide training on modern farming methods, agribusiness, irrigation, post-harvest handling, and record-keeping.
4. Inputs Supply and Distribution
· Facilitate access to quality seeds, fertilizers (organic and chemical), pesticides/weedkillers, and farming tools at affordable prices.
5. Mechanization Services
· Provide tractors, power tillers, harvesters, and rice milling services to reduce labour and increase productivity.
6. Post-Harvest and Storage Development
· Support cold storage, warehouses, drying floors, and improved storage systems to reduce losses.
7. Transport and Logistics Support
· Operate transport services (including refrigerated trucks) for produce, farm inputs, and members’ goods.
8. Marketing and Value Addition
· Develop markets and outlets (shops/market centres), improve packaging, grading, and processing for higher income.
9. Financial Inclusion
· Support savings schemes, micro-loans, revolving funds, and partnerships with banks and donors to finance farming activities.
10. Partnership and Advocacy
· Build partnerships with government, NGOs, projects, and private companies; advocate for farmer-friendly policies.
11. Climate-Smart Agriculture and Environment
· Promote composting/organic manure, water management, tree planting, and sustainable land use.
12. Community Development and Social Support
· Support community initiatives, promote peace and unity, and assist vulnerable farmers when possible.

Preamble
We, the farmers of the North Bank Region of The Gambia, recognising the need for unity and collaboration in overcoming challenges faced by our farming communities—particularly women and youth—do hereby establish this Constitution for the North Bank Farmers Association (NBFA).
We aim to work closely with the Gambian Government, NGOs, and development partners to support all farmers and producers throughout the agricultural value chain. Our commitment is to promote sustainable farming development, ensure food security, and foster economic independence for smallholder and local women farmers.
Article I: Name
The name of this organisation shall be the North Bank Farmers Association (NBFA), hereinafter referred to as “the Association.”
Article II: Mission Statement
The mission of NBFA is to enhance the livelihoods of farmers and producers in The Gambia by fostering sustainable agricultural practices, empowering women and youth, and facilitating access to resources and markets.
Article III: Aims and Objectives
The aims and objectives of the Association shall be:
- To unify Gambian farmers under one farmers’ union to promote food security and economic independence.
- To empower youth and women farmers through training in climate-smart agriculture and access to mechanised farming implements and inputs.
- To assist youth and women farmer groups in accessing clean water for drinking and irrigation, and secure funding for fencing materials in village gardens.
- To advocate for the establishment of cold storage facilities across all six regions to improve market access and reduce post-harvest losses.
- To provide training on value addition, food processing techniques, and innovations in agricultural production systems.
Article IV: Membership
- Membership shall be open to all farmers in the North Bank Region and stakeholders in the agricultural sector.
- Members shall pay an annual membership fee, as determined by the Executive Committee.
- Membership categories shall include:
- Individual Members
- Women Members
- Youth Members
- Honorary Members
Article V: Governance Structure
Section 1: Executive Committee
The Association shall be governed by an Executive Committee comprising:
- President
- Vice President
- Secretary
- Treasurer
- Regional Coordinators
- Advisory Board Members
- Fundraising Committee Chair
- Public Relations Officer (P.R.O) Team
- Additional Members (as deemed necessary)
Section 2: Regional Coordinators
Appointed to represent each district, Coordinators shall:
- Mobilize local farmers and stakeholders
- Coordinate training and outreach activities
- Report regional needs and progress to the Executive Committee
- Ensure inclusive participation at the village level
Section 3: Advisory Board
Composed of agricultural experts, community leaders, and development partners, the Advisory Board shall:
- Provide strategic guidance and technical expertise
- Review plans, policies, and proposals
- Support NBFA’s advocacy and donor engagement
Section 4: Mobilizers
Mobilizers shall support grassroots engagement and member recruitment by:
- Promoting NBFA’s mission and activities
- Assisting with event planning and logistics
- Facilitating communication between members and leadership
- Encouraging youth and women participation
Section 5: Fundraising Committee
Led by a designated Chair, the Fundraising Committee shall:
- Identify funding opportunities and donor prospects
- Organize campaigns and fundraising events
- Prepare grant applications and proposals
- Ensure transparency in resource mobilization
Section 6: Public Relations Officer (P.R.O) Team
The P.R.O Team shall manage NBFA’s communications and public image. Roles include:
- Lead P.R.O: Oversees all communications strategy
- Media Liaison Officer: Coordinates with press and broadcasters
- Community Engagement Officer: Builds relationships with local groups
- Digital Communications Officer: Manages social media and online outreach
Section 7: Elections and Appointments
- Executive Committee officers shall be elected every two years.
- Coordinators, Mobilizers, and Committee Members may be appointed or elected based on community nominations and Executive Committee approval.
- All members in good standing shall have voting rights.
Article VI: Meetings
- Regular meetings shall be held at least once every three months.
- Special meetings may be called by the President or upon request by one-third of the members.
- A quorum shall consist of at least one-third of the members present.
Article VII: Financial Provisions
- NBFA’s financial resources shall include membership fees, donations, grants, and other lawful sources of income.
- The Treasurer shall prepare an annual budget and financial report to be presented at the Annual General Meeting.
Article VIII: Amendments
- Amendments to this Constitution require a two-thirds majority vote of members present at a duly convened meeting.
- Proposed amendments must be submitted in writing to the Executive Committee at least two weeks prior to the meeting.
Article IX: Dissolution
In the event of dissolution, any remaining assets—after liabilities are settled—shall be transferred to a charitable organisation with similar objectives, as determined by the Executive Committee.
Article X: Adoption
This Constitution shall be adopted upon approval by a majority vote of the founding members present at the inaugural meeting of the North Bank Farmers Association.

Our organisation is set on working closely with the Gambian Government and NGO's in supporting the cause of all farmers and producers in the whole value chain for sustainable development farming in the Gambia.
Aims & Objectives
- To bring all Gambian farmers under one “farmers union” to ensure food security and economic dependency for both small scale holder farmers and local women farmers.
- Empowering youths and local women farmers by training them on climate-smart agriculture and supporting them with mechanised farming implements and inputs.
- To help youths and local women farmers groups access clean water for drinking and farming and also funding for fencing materials in various village gardens.
- To support Gambian farmers to access profitable markets by ensuring there are good cold storage facilities across the six regions in the country.
- To train farmers on the latest value addition processes, techniques and innovation in our food production system.
